Because 14 years ago Matthew Shepard was beaten, bloodied, and left outside to die, which he did days later in hospital. It happened solely because Matthew Shepard was gay. We cannot stand idly by while such horrific crimes are happening to LGBT people here in America and across the globe. Hate kills. We fight so that people will not be left in the cold of night to die alone and afraid.
