How is a guy who saved someone who has just been shot not a "real man?"

The Wrap-Up: February 13, 2012

Today is the day that Washington Governor Chris Gregoire will sign marriage equality into law in her state. While it's definitely a good thing overall, I disagree with the timing.

Rick Santorum gives yet another reason for us not to want him as President...as if we needed one. And yet again, he has no idea what he's talking about.

Over the weekend, Mitt Romney managed to break his losing streak...barely.

Despite that win, Romney's national out look is less than stellar. It's good for him that his campaign is loaded. 

Seriously, Santorum is just starting to sound paranoid. Okay, he's been sounding paranoid for a while, but this is beyond the pale.

Super-Tuesday is less than a month away and the GOP candidates will be all over the place.

Here is a look into that anti-Ellen spokesperson (Sandy Rios) who appeared on Bill O'Reilly's show last week (you can see that clip HERE).

And lastly, while CPAC (a conservative gathering in D.C) was taking place, protesters rallied outside, and Andrew Breibart made a colossal ass of himself trying counter them (and failing/flailing miserably).

For those thinking of not voting for Barack Obama, here is one reason why you should (especially given that battles coming in the next few years).

Luckily, many of the trends (though not all) are in Obama's favor.

CPAC's convention began today, which I suppose explains this headache I have.

A British politician has stated that his country's conservative party is "riddled with homosexuals." And to think I thought American Republicans had cornered market on that brand of hypocrisy.

Rick Santorum has a real knack for not knowing what the Hell he is talking about.

Out-spoken (Tea-Party backed) Allen West, who has many outrageous statements to his credit) may have a strong "well-financed" Democratic opponent for his congressional seat.

Uganda's government tries to have its cake and eat it too...but fails in doing so. Unless you categorically denounce this bill, you are, at the very least, tacitly complicit.

Rep. Gabby Giffords had an interesting request for one of her former aides.

And lastly, today in political stupidity, a Mississippi legislator wants to axe the Gulf of "Mexico."

The Wrap-Up: January 26, 2012

Bill gates adds his name to the list of the rich calling for tax fairness. I'm thinking that the Koch brothers won't be following his good example.

It really seems that this one particular Minnesota school district is bound and determined to not address its bullying problem no matter how many lives it claims. Seriously, all of this "think of the children" talk is hot-air.

Just when I was getting used to not hearing about Michele Bachmann in the news, here she is again.

I find it completely unsurprising that most Americans disagree with Romney's claim that "corporations are people."

Speaking of whom, Florida voters, hit hard by home foreclosures, may like Romney even less when they learn this. Nice "work" if you can get it though.

Yesterday, Rep. Gabby Giffords (D-AZ) bid farewell to the House of Representatives.

I guess I have to stop hating on Starbucks now, with them being for marriage equality and all.

Republican debate #342 will take place tonight at 8pm on CNN. I'm not sure if getting home from the day job early enough to see this will be a good thing.

Seriously, why do so many people like Chuck Norris? Obviously, his judgment is terrible.

I'm not the only person to have written Rick Santorum an open letter. This is a very eloquent piece on his parenting views.

First, Tony Perkins doesn't know what the meaning of judgmental is (he should look in the mirror to find out). Second, why do media outlets (including the left/progressive leaning MSNBC) have this guy on as an expert for anything other than hate-mongering?

This weekend, Congresswoman Gabby Giffords was on-hand to mark yesterday being the 1 year anniversary of the shooting that took place at Tuscon, Arizona that claimed 6 lives. 

The GOP candidates faced a double-header of debates this weekend and used the opportunity to spread more political falsehoods.

In Sunday morning's debate, Mitt Romney says he doesn't discriminate...except when he discriminates.

Despite the positive jobs numbers from December, Romney continues to say President Obama has made the economy worse.

Some of the contribution numbers have come in on a race that will pit the former first lady of Iowa against one of the House's more outspoken conservatives.

The FBI has finally done something that should have been done ages ago.

Just because Rick Santorum doesn't yell and shout does not make him any less an extremist. He is, in many ways, quite extreme.

I'm sure there are more than just 5 myths on taxes here in the U.S., but here are the big ones.

NFL players are fighting Indiana's proposed anti-labor bill.

The New Jersey state legislature is set to introduce a marriage equality bill in the new session.

And lastly, Rachel Maddow showed up to talk politics with Jimmy Fallon. Hilarity ensued (especially at the end of clip 2).

Aaron Copland

Yesterday was the birthday of the late Aaron Copland, one of the best known American composers who was also openly gay.

Catholic Charities ended its lawsuit against Illinois, which had decided to not renew contracts with CC because they would not place children with same-sex couples. In other words, they ended the suit because they were going to lose big-time. How can you sue someone for not renewing a contract any way?

Rick Santorum blames Mitt Romney for marriage equality. Who does he blame for his terrible poll numbers though?

Herman Cain really stepped in it with an interview on Libya.

In other "stepping in it" news, a radio host apologized for "allegedly" equating homosexuality and pedophilia in a conversation about parenting in the wake of the Penn State scandal. This was actually the second apology, as the first was your classic "...if we offended anyone..." apology.

Speaking of said scandal, Jerry Sandusky had his first interview (with Bob Costas) since the story broke. I didn't even get to the 3-minute mark (it's about 9.5 minutes long) before I had to stop. It's fairly graphic so consider yourself warned.

In another first interview since a terrible incident, Congresswoman Gabbie Giffords (D-AZ) had hers with Diane Sawyer.

Tennessee's anti-gay "Special Access to Discriminate" bill is getting taken to court. Its passage was a particularly slimy process.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg

Despite the protesting of Mayor Bloomberg, a New York judge has said that the REAL protestors can return to Zucotti Park after a night time raid. At least he was right on marriage equality (silver lining).

With seven weeks left until the Iowa Caucuses, it looks like a 4-way (Perry-less) race is shaping up.

The Michigan legislator who proposed the "moral" exception to the state's anti-bullying law has agreed to drop that language. Maybe someone told him there is nothing moral about bullying, whatever the reason behind it may be.

Gabby Giffords Returns!!!

So much darkness has spewed out of the capitol of the United States of late. The return of Representative Gabrielle Giffords is perhaps the only good thing that has happened there and is truly an inspiring moment that pierces through the rest of the white-noise of politics.
