Gays Are Just Confused Straight People

It seems like a week does not go by when Pat Robertson does not say something categorically ignorant, and often, that means delving into homophobia.

First, I can guarantee Mister Robertson that I am not confused. Not even a little bit. As to that confusion having to do with abuse as a child, there is no scientific, empirical evidence to back that up. While I am sure some children that end up being gay have been abused (it is a statistical inevitability), so have some children that end up being straight. Why did some those abused kids end up being gay and some straight? Because sexual orientation has nothing to do with abuse. I was not abused, I still ended up gay. Mister Robertson's claim has been debunked by medical professionals time and time again.

Second, did he seriously just say "We're not anti-gay or anything?" Really, he said that. He must be going senile because within the last week, he said that instead of a "Like" button, Facebook should have a "Vomit" button that he can use when he sees pictures of same-sex couple kissing. No, nothing about that sounds homophobic...right?

Third, Mister Robertson refers to gay people watching his show. The thing is that while there are certainly gay people watching his show, I would bet that a majority of them, like myself, are watching merely to hear the latest stupid, wrong, inconsiderate, or ignorant thing that he has said. Lord knows it happens often enough for us to see his show regularly. I highly doubt that many look to him for guidance given how poor is advice all-too-often is. In actuality, Mister Robertson should be aware that the vast majority of gay people watching his show are either just shaking their heads, or they are outright laughing at him. If he knew that, perhaps he would be less pleased about us watching him.

With every word he utters, Pat Robertson is distancing himself further and further away from mainstream America, including those who are people of faith. Time and good sense are sweeping people with mentalities like his into the annals of history where they belong.

Pat Robertson: Women to Blame for Bad Marriages

Seriously, why do people ask this idiot for advice?

Of course there is no war on women...

Pat Robertson's Advice: Beat Your Wife

On a tangential note, I'm sure there are same-sex couples that are far kinder to each other than this "traditionally" married couple.

TYT on Pat Robertson's Adoption Comments

I could have sworn that part of the conservative mantra was "Think of the children." I guess Robertson doesn't give two craps about the children, and wants others to do the same.

Pat Robertson: Ignore the Bible?

First, America was not founded as a Christian nation. God is not mentioned explicitly in either the Declaration of Independence, nor the Constitution of the United States (if memory serves). The "creator" is mentioned in the Declaration and Christians believe that to be God, but God is not mentioned by name. Also, I'll direct those who misguidedly believe America is a Christian nation to article 11 of the 1797 Treaty of Tripoli (I have written about this previously) which states in its entirety:
As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquility, of Mussulmen; and, as the said States never entered into any war, or act of hostility against any Mahometan nation, it is declared by the parties, that no pretext arising from religious opinions, shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries.
One of the founders was President when this treaty passed and signed it into law (and I'm sure some of them were in Congress as well). It is pretty hard to look at this and still think that America is explicitly a Christian nation. Then again, some people have a talent for not doing research and putting on the blinders when it comes to looking at facts.

Second, if you are going to recommend ignoring the Bible's support of slavery because society now sees it as wrong, should you not do the same regarding the Bible's (alleged) condemnation of homosexuality? More and more people are supporting LGBT equality, they see homosexuality as just another variant of humanity, and believe that homophobia is damaging to people. Thus, by Robertson's own logic, the Bible saying (allegedly) that homosexuality is wrong should be ignored.

Thanks Pat!

The Wrap-Up; April 25, 2012

Yesterday was primary day in several states, but no one really cares at this point, so let's move on.

Missouri teachers are speaking out against the state's proposed "Don't Say Gay" bill.

Pat Robertson has done the unthinkable: he has condemned anti-gay bullying. The end of the world is indeed nigh.

With less than two weeks until North Carolinians vote on Amendment one (although early voting has already begun), opponents of this over-reaching legislation can defeat it if they can educate the public.

Has anyone else noticed that Rick Santorum hasn't endorsed Mitt Romney?

The latest Gallup poll has some good news for President Obama.

What is the big secret about Social Security? It is NOT going broke (even though the media is painting a different picture).

Senate Democrats may be shutting down the chance of the Keystone Pipeline from coming to fruition any time soon.

Setting himself apart from many Christian leaders, Joel Osteen has his own particular stance on Mitt Romney's religion.

The California legislature is taking some strong steps against ex-gay "therapy."

And lastly, some notes on a single-payer health care system.

The Religious Wrong: Pray the Tornadoes Away

Pat Robertson really thinks he knows everything? Now he is giving us meteorology lessons. Thanks, but I'll stick to The Weather Channel instead.

Besides that,  he is literally telling people the tornadoes are their fault for building homes in tornado alley. Earthquakes are their fault for building homes on seismically active ground, and so on. Is there any place on this planet that is prone to zero natural disasters? I'm pretty sure the answer to that question is a resounding NO.

As to the prayer part, exactly how many people have to pray to make tornadoes stop? How hard do these people need to pray? Does the Bible tell us this, because I missed that verse in Bible School apparently. It would also appear that Robertson has never heard that old adage "The Lord hears all prayers, even if sometimes the answer is no."

Anyone asking Pat Robertson for advice should have their heads checked instead...much like Robertson himself.
