The Conservative Agenda: Tax Ignorance

It is a well known fact that the Republican Party holds President Ronald Reagan on a pedestal. If you saw any of the GOP debates from earlier this year, you probably heard his name in half of the responses. On no area do they cite him more than on taxes. You hear them say over and over again that he cut taxes. The thing is that many conservatives patently ignore the fact that this is false. Well, maybe not all conservatives. In a recent interview with CNN, Newt Gingrich made a startling admission:

It's easy to miss, but Newt Gingrich actually acknowledged the fact that President Reagan raised taxes at least once (though he actually did multiple times). These days, conservatives are being forced to see the truth of this time and again.

The Wrap-Up: February 6, 2012

New York Giants Quarterback Eli Manning
Congrats to the New York Giants on their Super Bowl win. There is definitely something to be said for those down-to-the-wire games. I remember last year when it was my Green Bay Packers...

The jobs reports that came out on Friday has really good news...unless you're a GOP politician that is.

A member of the Reagan administration explains why "Reaganomics" won't work this time around. Of course, I don't expect Republican to pay attention to him.

The French government gave Scientology the smack down.

I guess Rick Santorum was so busy telling gay people they don't deserve the same rights as everyone else that he missed yet another ballot.
Gov. Jan Brewer (R-AZ)

While I wish that this statement by Senator Chuck Grassley were true, it just isn't. Another Republican who completely dismisses facts.

Believe Out Loud has a breakdown of support for marriage equality by religious affiliation.

Jan Brewer (R-AZ) may be the next governor to get the recall treatment.

And lastly, Romney makes another colossally incorrect (and rather arrogant/ignorant) statement. It amazes me how he said something so wrong with such confidence.

The Wrap-Up: January 23, 2012

Rep. Gabby Gifford (D-AZ)
Gabby Giffords has made an announcement about her future in Congress.

Saturday saw Newt Gingrich take the South Carolina Primary. Here are some Twitter reactions.

Here you can see a rundown of the exit polling. There is one group that Mitt Romney won which surprises no one: those making $200,000+.

Up next in the GOP nomination process: Florida!!!

Grindr was hacked, releasing the information of 100,000 users. Luckily for Republicans, this happened in Australia.

I'm pretty sure that Bryan Fischer of the so-called American Family Association double majored in Theocracy and Fuzzy Math. That, or I have some catching up to do.

FRC President Tony Perkins
Seriously, why do so many people like Chuck Norris? Obviously, his judgment is terrible.

I'm not the only person to have written Rick Santorum an open letter. This is a very eloquent piece on his parenting views.

First, Tony Perkins doesn't know what the meaning of judgmental is (he should look in the mirror to find out). Second, why do media outlets (including the left/progressive leaning MSNBC) have this guy on as an expert for anything other than hate-mongering?

And lastly, it's amazing the things about Ronald Reagan that the GOP ignores...

Ronald Reagan: Close Loopholes For the Rich

If you have seen any of the GOP presidential debates, or any of the GOP candidates speaking on the stump, you have heard them (each and every one of them) site Ronald Reagan on a regular basis. In fact at the debate which took place at the Reagan Library in California, they were practically praying at a Reagan shrine. It really is amazing how when you get into the details, these candidates, as well as the current Republican party (at least in terms of the elected Republicans) are categorically un-Reagan if not anti-Reagan. It really goes to show how little these people actually know what they are talking about. HERE is an interesting article from Think Progress from earlier this year that brings to light facts that I'm sure conservatives are completely unaware of.
