Show's Over For Caiden Cowger

I just mentioned earlier today how a 14 year old from West Virginia had a radio show where he said being gay was a choice, it was disgusting, and President Obama and Vice President Biden are making kids gay (or perhaps you read the story elsewhere). Well, it looks like the radio service on which this show was aired has pulled the show calling it hate speech. The Advocate reports:

“While we not only support free speech, we help it find its way to more people faster and easier with our service that is the audio equivalent of YouTube, but like them, we cannot and will not condone hate speech," said Spreaker CEO Francesco Baschieri in a statement. "Consequently, we have pulled down audio content from Caiden Cowgar, whose recent gay-bashing clearly crosses the line from free — to hate — speech.”

The statement was sent to media and to Rhonda Magnus, the woman responsible for leading an effort to boot Cowger from Spreaker. Magnus is fighting in court because she says her gay son was being bullied in Niagara County schools in New York. Magnus pointed out that the Spreaker terms of service ban any speech encouraging discrimination.

Previous to this, YouTube had also pulled the show, also condemning it as hate speech and stating that they don't not condone speech that encourages discrimination. So the show is over, but I'm sure this is not the last we have heard of Caiden Cowger where this type of ignorance is concerned.

If you want to see the video that sparked the controversy, there is apparently a campaign to wipe it off of the net. A of when I'm writing this, you can find it HERE.

  1. They shouldn't take it off the net! If something is hateful, don't hide it, hold it up and shine a light on it. Oh, wait, but he's 14....so yeah, maybe he shouldn't be held up to too much ridicule, not from adults, anyway.

  2. I will state this once again. The REAL issue here is that a 14 year old VIRGIN who uses Bronze Age mythology in place of his own sexual experience or knowledge about the modern era, is in absolutely no 'position' (pun intended) to tell anyone anything about the issues he discussed.

    PERIOD.

Hate speech? Not so much. Stupid speech. Absolutely.
